Always approach a horse from the side and speak to it.
-
Work close to a horse.
-
Keep leads and reins off the ground.
-
Walk beside when leading a horse.
-
Keep both hands on a horse lead.
-
Do not wrap leads or reins around hand or body.
-
Tighten girth before mounting.
-
Don't shout or run around horses.
-
Pet a horse on the shoulder, not on the nose.
-
Don't cluck; it upsets other horses.
-

-
ALWAYS WEAR A HELMET when mounted.
*** IMPORTANT NOTE ***
A riding helmet is DIFFERENT from a bike helmet. The padding is in differnet
locations. Wearing a bike helment will not protect you as much as a equine
helmet would. I would recemed that you visit Jeffers
Equine Supply and check their helmet inventory. I have found that
they have the best price
